Walking Wonders
The first steps are huge milestones. Around 12 to 18 months, toddlers typically begin to walk. It’s incredible to watch their tiny feet stumble and then steady. My heart melted watching my little one take her first steps toward the cookie jar! Encourage them with supportive footwear and lots of praise. It’s a wobbly journey, but don’t worry, falls are part of learning.
Talking Tots
Around the age of one, babies start babbling with intent. By two, they might form simple sentences like ‘Want milk!’
A funny story: my son’s first sentence was ‘No nap!’ and it became his mantra. Reading to them and singing songs helps to enhance their vocabulary and understanding. Remember, every child progresses at their own pace.
Emotional Rollercoaster
Toddlers are emotionally charged little beings. Expect tantrums, tears, and tons of laughter. They can’t always control their emotions, leading to outbursts over spilled milk. My daughter’s meltdown over a broken crayon could rival a Shakespearean drama. Be patient and offer comfort. Teach them to express their feelings with words.
Playtime Progress
Playtime is how toddlers learn about the world. From stacking blocks to simple puzzles, each activity boosts their cognitive skills.
One time, my son turned our living room into a castle – complete with a laundry basket throne. Encourage imaginative play to foster creativity and problem-solving skills.
Fine Motor Skills
Those tiny hands are learning big things. Expect your toddler to start picking up small objects, holding crayons, and maybe even trying to button their shirt. My daughter once proudly handed me a drawing that looked like abstract art; in her eyes, it was a masterpiece. Providing safe, age-appropriate tools will help refine their fine motor skills.
Social Butterflies
Little ones are learning to interact with peers. They might start sharing toys or engaging in parallel play. My heart swelled watching my son offer his truck to a playmate. Encourage social activities and playdates to develop social skills. It’s also a prime time to teach them about empathy and kindness.
