Tips for Using Bible Verses in Preschool Play

Use Storytelling and Imagination

Kids love stories, and the Bible is full of them! Turn Bible stories into imaginative play. Build Noah’s ark with blocks or act out David’s bravery with toy figures. These stories come alive, and the verses naturally become part of their vocabulary. One rainy afternoon, my daughter turned our laundry basket into Jonah’s boat, complete with stuffed animals as the cast. This helped her remember Jonah’s story vividly.

Create Fun Activities with Verses

Integrate Bible verses into fun activities. Create a scavenger hunt where each clue is a part of a verse. Make puzzles or play matching games with verse cards. During playdates, this can be a hit with other kids too. I’ve seen my son’s face light up when he finds the hidden ‘Love one another’ card behind the couch. It makes playtime an educational and spiritual adventure.

Sing Verses in Simple Songs

Music is a powerful tool for memory. Singing Bible verses to the tune of familiar nursery rhymes makes them unforgettable. Even if you’re not musically inclined, your kids will love it.

My off-key rendition of ‘Jesus loves me’ set to ‘Twinkle, Twinkle’ always gets my kids giggling and grasping the message simultaneously. You don’t need a Grammy award-winning voice, just enthusiasm!

Craft Time with Bible Verses

Crafting is another engaging way to incorporate Bible verses. Use simple crafts like coloring pages, paper plate crafts, or making bookmarks with verses. These activities solidify the verses in their minds and are fun to display around the house. My fridge door is covered in my children’s ‘artwork’ with verses like ‘The Lord is my shepherd’ (Psalm 23:1) in glitter and glue. It’s a colorful reminder for everyone.

Crafting

Engaging in crafts with Bible verses not only provides a creative outlet but also reinforces the Word in a memorable and visually appealing way.
